RAZOR CLAM – FROZEN SEA FISHING BAIT
Razor clam is a highly effective natural shellfish bait for UK sea fishing, particularly for cod, bass, flatfish, whiting and rays.
The soft, fleshy meat releases plenty of natural scent into the water and can be fished on its own or combined with other baits. Razor clam is particularly useful from beaches, estuaries, mixed ground and rough ground, where shellfish form part of the natural food available to fish.
HOW TO FISH RAZOR CLAM
Razor clam can be cut into long strips, smaller pieces or built into a larger bait.
For cod and bass, lay a strip of razor lengthways along the hook and bind it firmly with bait elastic. This produces a neat, streamlined bait that casts well while continuing to release scent.
For whiting and flatfish, use smaller strips on lighter rigs.
For rays and larger bottom-feeding species, build a more substantial razor bait or combine it with squid or another fish bait.
Always keep the hook point and gape completely exposed.

TOP TIP
Razor clam is naturally soft, so bait elastic is essential. Don't simply wrap a large lump around the hook.
Lay the clam along the hook, bind it neatly and build the bait gradually. You'll get a more streamlined presentation, better casting and a properly exposed hook point.
