CALIFORNIAN CALAMARI – WASHED SQUID
Californian Calamari is a versatile washed squid bait suitable for a wide range of UK shore and boat fishing.
Squid has firm, durable flesh that stays on the hook well, making it particularly useful when distance casting, fishing stronger tides or when smaller fish are stripping softer baits.
Fish it whole, cut into strips, as larger pieces or combined with fish baits such as sandeel, mackerel and bluey.
Excellent for cod, bass, rays, huss, dogfish, whiting and other bottom-feeding species.
COD
Cut the squid into a long tapered strip or use a larger section on a Pulley Rig or Pulley Pennel.
For bigger cod baits, use a Wrigglers Takumi Wide Gape Long Shank or Octopus Beak Hook.
Squid can also be wrapped around sandeel or fish bait to make a tougher cocktail for hard casting.
BASS
Fish a neat strip of calamari on a Running Ledger or Pulley Rig.
Use a Wrigglers Chinu Hook for smaller presentations or a Wrigglers Takumi / Octopus Beak Hook when increasing the bait size.
RAYS & HUSS
Use a larger strip or section of squid on a Pulley Pennel or Up & Over Rig.

WHITING & GENERAL SEA FISHING

Cut squid into a long tapered bait rather than a thick lump. This produces a cleaner presentation and helps it cast better.
