SQUID – FROZEN SEA FISHING BAIT
Squid is one of the most versatile baits in sea fishing. Its tough flesh, strong scent and excellent hook-holding properties make it suitable for everything from small strip baits to large whole baits and cocktails.
It can be fished whole, cut into strips, used as a tipping bait or combined with launce, sandeel, mackerel and other fish baits. Wrapping squid around a softer fish bait also helps produce a tougher bait that stays together during casting.
Excellent for targeting cod, bass, rays, smoothhounds, huss, conger, whiting and a wide range of other sea species from shore or boat.
HOW TO FISH SQUID
For whiting, flatfish and general shore fishing, cut squid into smaller strips and fish them on a 2 or 3-hook flapper.
For cod and bass, use a larger strip or squid-and-fish cocktail on a Pulley Rig or Pulley Pennel.
For rays, huss and larger bottom-feeding species, larger squid baits can be fished on an Up & Over or Pulley Pennel.
Whole squid and larger cocktail baits should be secured with bait elastic, keeping the bait streamlined and the hook point and gape clear.

SQUID COCKTAILS
Try squid with launce, sandeel or mackerel. Lay or wrap the squid around the fish bait and secure it firmly with bait elastic. This gives you a tougher bait with a combination of fish and squid scent.
TOP TIP: Match the hook to the size of the bait—not just the size of the fish. Whatever hook you use, make sure the point and gape remain completely clear.
