INDIAN PARTY SQUID

BABY SQUID – FROZEN SEA FISHING BAIT

Baby squid are a superb small bait and tipping bait for UK sea fishing. Their natural scent, soft flesh and manageable size make them ideal when you want the attraction of squid without putting out a large bait.

They can be used whole as a small bait, cut into pieces or strips, or added to worm and fish baits as a tough, attractive tipper.

Excellent for targeting whiting, codling, bream, flatfish, bass, dogfish and other general shore and boat species.

BABY SQUID AS A TIPPER BAIT

Baby squid are particularly useful for tipping off other baits.

Add a small piece or strip to lugworm, ragworm, mackerel, sandeel or other fish baits. The squid gives the bait extra scent and movement while its tougher flesh can help keep the end of a softer bait secured on the hook.

Don't overload the hook—a small piece of squid is often all that's required for a tipper.

FISHING BABY SQUID WHOLE

Baby squid can also be fished whole as a compact bait.

Hook the squid so it sits neatly and naturally, using bait elastic where necessary. Keep the hook point and gape completely clear.

A whole baby squid makes a useful small fish bait when you want something more substantial than a strip but don't need the size of a full squid bait.

BEST WRIGGLERS RIGS & HOOKS

2-Hook Flapper — an excellent all-round setup for baby squid, either whole or as a tipper, when targeting whiting, codling, flatfish and mixed species.
Use: Wrigglers Aberdeen Hooks.

3-Hook Flapper — ideal for smaller pieces of baby squid or squid-tipped worm baits when scratching for mixed species.
Use: Wrigglers Aberdeen Hooks.

Pulley Rig — a good choice when using a whole baby squid or a slightly larger cocktail bait for bass, codling and better fish.
Use: Wrigglers Octopus Beak Hooks or Takumi Wide Gape Long Shank Hooks, matched to the bait size.

Running Ledger — a simple presentation for fishing whole baby squid or squid-tipped baits naturally on the bottom.
Use: Wrigglers Aberdeen or Octopus Beak Hooks, depending on bait size and target species.

GREAT BABY SQUID COMBINATIONS

Lugworm + Baby Squid — excellent general shore bait.

Ragworm + Baby Squid — a strong combination for bass, bream and mixed species.

Mackerel + Baby Squid — combines oily fish with the toughness and scent of squid.

Sandeel/Launce + Baby Squid — use a strip of baby squid to help create a tougher fish-and-squid presentation.

COMPLETE YOUR SETUP WITH WRIGGLERS TACKLE

Wrigglers Aberdeen Hooks • Octopus Beak Hooks • Takumi Wide Gape Long Shank Hooks • Flapper Rigs • Pulley Rigs • Power Swivels • Rig Line • Clips • Rig Components

TOP TIP: When using baby squid as a tipper, keep it small. You want the squid to complement the main bait without masking the hook point or turning a neat bait into an oversized one.
